In the Atelier
F.WORDS stakes its claim on uncompromising quality and controlling the manufacturing process.
Having worked almost entirely with woven’s for twenty years before launching F.WORDS, we now primarily work with technical knits.
Marrying the juxtaposition between couture ready to wear and active fashion is what makes our heart beat.
We want to share the heart and soul of F.WORDS over the next few posts. We are going to bring you into the atelier and into the world of creating a garment in NYC with love and a commitment to the process and the individuals who have a hand in shaping each piece.
Sure, the orange stripe is an important design element of our Free(deux) Hoodie but there’s a story of precision and process behind it.
Binding has a special place in our DNA. We find that it adds an architectural detail to our designs. We’ll always swap a facing or overlocked seam allowance for binding wherever we can. It’s a seam detail and design technique you will see with us season to season, part of our brand identity.
First a cutter must hand cut without pins, on the bias, our signature orange silk georgette which will be later used as binding.
Next it’s handed off to our highly skilled technicians to apply it in construction to the design. It is hand folded and manipulated around the edge of the fabric and sent through the machine with the sewers demure hand work and precisely engineered machine tension.
